ICCS PAPER on Data Analytics to support Policy-making for Non-Communicable Diseases: A Scoping Review – out now!
A review article led by the i-SENSE Group of ICCS (Giorgos Dritsakis et al.) with contribution from Marilly Psomiadi from the Greek Ministry of Health has been recently published by the Online Journal of Public Health Informatics (OJPHI).
The study reviewed 9 articles published in the last decade, presenting 7 data analytics tools designed to aid decision-making in Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The tools use not only descriptive but also a range of predictive analytics techniques and have been piloted in a range of scenarios. However, most of them have not been applied yet in real-world policy environments.
The review emphasizes the potential of advanced data analytics to support policy making in NCDs but also the need for greater integration of such tools in real world policy-making, particularly as conditions like cancer continue to pose significant public health challenges. The factors affecting the adoption of digital tools are discussed and a number of suggestions for researchers developing such tools to support public health policy-making are made.
The findings will contribute to the ongoing EU-funded ONCODIR project, which is developing a policy analytics dashboard as part of an integrated platform for colorectal cancer prevention.
